Palaces & Castles

The many palaces and castles in the surrounding area are popular tourist destinations. Some have enchanting gardens, others have interesting exhibitions to tempt visitors to return year after year.

Schwerin Palace
The Palace of Schwerin is built on an island and its architecture is based on castles in the Loire.

Güstrow Palace
This unique Renaissance palace with lavish stucco decorations offers visitors an art exhibition with exhibits from various centuries.

Ludwigslust Palace
Ludwigslust Palace forms the centre of the still completely preserved Baroque town. The main residence of Frederick Francis I, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin stands out due to its excellent collection dating back to the 18th century as well as its gilded ballrooms and one of the most beautiful palace gardens of the north.

Schorssow Palace
This palace, which is surrounded by lakes and built in the classical three-wing style, is set in an English-style landscape park.
 
Rheinsberg Palace
Rheinsberg Palace and its parkland in the rococo style of Frederick the Great were major inspirations for buildings and gardens in Berlin as well as Potsdam.

Schlitz Castle
The castle, built in the classical style, is located in the middle of a 130-hectare park. This 19th century castle is situated near Teterow and Waren on Lake Müritz.
 
Ulrichshusen Castle
This house was built by a knight in 1562 and is the major venue of the " Mecklenburg Festival". It is situated in the middle of the Mecklenburg 'Lake District' near Waren on Lake Müritz.
 
Teschow Castle
This castle, which is a classical manor house with wings, is a listed building and is surrounded by 8 hectares of parkland.
