Grandhotel Heiligendamm - Islands

Islands

There are some delightful islands and peninsulas on the Baltic coast of Mecklenburg.

The island of Poel and the Wustrow peninsula can be reached quickly from Heiligendamm and are ideal day-trip destinations.

Mecklenburg's largest island has plenty to offer both adults and children. Old country estate houses and farms, cobbled tree-lined roads and the old castle walls promise an exciting day out. Added to that are old lighthouses, old school buildings, museums and the island's church. If the weather is occasionally a little inclement, there is also an indoor playground for young explorers.

The history of the Wustrow Peninsula is as varied as its flora and fauna. Initially settled by a handful of farmers, Wustrow was a restricted military zone during World War II and later became a place of refuge for thousands of refugees.

Why not explore the secrets of this unique peninsula. You can visit Wustrow from May to October accompanied by an experienced guide on board "MS Salzhaff".
