Grandhotel Heiligendamm - Shipping and the Sea

Shipping and the Sea

Holidaying at the Baltic is the ideal opportunity to explore ships, ports and fleets.

Why not take the plunge into Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's maritime world and visit its range of interesting museums and exhibitions about the sea and shipping.

Societät Rostock Maritim e.V. provides an insight into the history of shipping. Its permanent exhibitions include "Schifffahrt und Schiffe - im Wandel der Zeiten" (Shipping and Ships - Through the Ages) and a presentation about Rostock's ports, the 'Technische Flotte' (tug fleet), the merchant fleet, deep-sea fishing and the German Navy.

A maritime history theme park for adults and children is now located on the former site of the International Garden Exhibition (IGA). Why not take a look around the Shipbuilding and Shipping Museum on the IGA site in Rostock and learn some interesting facts about shipping.

Why not take the narrow-gauge railway, "Molli" to Kühlungsborn and from there sail on the steamer "MS Baltica" to Warnemünde. Here you will discover the many small cafés, restaurants and boutiques and explore the picturesque port of Warnemünde. 3 hours later "MS Baltica" will return you safe and sound to her home  port.

Our Concierge is happy to provide you with information about departure times and with tips about what to do when you visit Warnemünde.

Why not go on a journey from the harbour basin in Stralsund via the North Sea to the Arctic Ocean. A visit to the Ozeaneum Stralsund provides you with insights into various marine habitats from boddens (seawater lagoons) to the open Atlantic.
