Cities and Towns

Besides featuring a pleasant town centre and a number of shops that tempt you to go for a stroll, the nearby small town of Bad Doberan has a number of places of interest, e.g. Doberan Minster, Molli - the seaside resort railway and Germany's oldest racecourse.

Rostock is located around 16 km away from Heiligendamm and can be reached in 20 minutes on the B103 trunk road. Mecklenburg's largest city has many shops and a scenic Old Town and is a great place to stroll around and take your time. You can also go on day trips to Denmark and southern Sweden from the ferry port.

The seaside resort of Warnemünde is located 14 km away from Heiligendamm and can be reached easily by car in 15 minutes. The many idyllic fishermen's cottages along the "Alter Strom", the  small snug restaurants and the kilometre-long sandy beach all make Warnemünde one of the region's most popular tourist attractions.

Wismar is located around 50 km from Heiligendamm and is one of Mecklenburg's most scenic port cities. You can reach Wismar from Heligendamm in 40 minutes by travelling on the A20 motorway heading towards Lübeck. The Hanseatic City of Wismar with its largely preserved Old Town has been a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site since 2002.

Schwerin lies nestled between seven lakes and is located around 70 km and 60 minutes travelling time from Heiligendamm. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's oldest city was the seat of governemnt of the Dukes of Mecklenburg for centuries and it is now the smallest of Germany's federal state capitals. An absolute must-see is Schwerin Palace, which is located on an island and is now the seat of the state parliament.
